BFF's

Baby N has a new BFF. It's not a paci or a soft animal that he can't be without...it's J's hair dryer! When he starts to get tired and a little cranky the sound of the hair dryer soothes him so quickly. We have a great white noise machine that we've been using since he was born and i was using it before he was born. But the calming ocean sounds that soothe me, just don't work as well for him as the hair dryer. I just ordered him a cd that we can play in his room - 70 non-stop minutes of the hair dryer!
In other news we've just started to see some smiles. They are so cute! I usually get a big one when i'm giving him his bath, but they sure are hard to get a picture of. I'm sure i will have plenty of them very soon!
We're planning to venture into NYC for pride tmrw. I've been practicing with the wrap today which maybe we'll be able to use and avoid using the stroller with all the people.

Work

I'm winding down my last few days at work and can't wait to be done for the summer. I'll miss the kids but am so looking forward to being home with my family! Still not totally sure what is going to happen in Sept, but am waiting to see how it works out.

One of my tasks during my last few weeks has been to take the little man to his swimming lessons. He is doing a special program that I've seen implemented many times over the last 10 years. His sister and all of his cousins all learned to swim in the same way. The program is designed to teach the kids to save themselves if they fall into water. It teaches them to float on their backs to get air, then flip over and swim. Returning to the float to rest and get air, until thye can climb out. You can check it out here. No matter how many times i watch the lessons it doesn't get any easier. Until the kids reach a certain level most of them cry the whole time. It's not fun to watch and i'm glad when the 10 minutes are over. But i know that the little man will be a great swimmer and safe all summer long.
Someone made a comment to me about baby N doing the course next year....i don't think it's for us. He'll just have to learn the old fashioned way just like his mommies did. Anyway check out the little man's skills below.

Thoughts

I love my little family. Our son is an adorable creature who I can't get enough of. My Nanny is the best person ever. She is a fantastic Mama, an amazing person and the absolute love of my life!

5 weeks

How did that happen? Our little tiny baby is 5 weeks old already!
It has been an amazing 5 weeks, we are enjoying him so much and getting to know him and all his little verbal and non-verbal cues.
He had an appointment at the pediatrician yesterday and is now 10lbs! Mommy is doing such a great job feeding him! He's in the 75th percentile for height and 50th for weight. Although after reading another blog the other day i now realise that doesn't mean anything.
I've been back at work for a couple of weeks now and it's been tough going. I hate being away from J and baby N all day. It's strange taking care of other people's kids while you're missing your own little guy. The work schedule is working out pretty well, although i'm never done by 5, which was the original agreement. They have found a college student to take away with them for the summer, so she has been spending time with the kids to get to know them. The little man has been super clingy since i got back and we had to start again with the potty training, but he seems to be back on track now. He now seems so big compared to our baby.
Think i have another week left at work before being done for the summer. I hope to be a much better blogger when i have a little more time!
